The Beginning...

We are feeling a need to be set apart from the world. We desire life with a purpose other than our own well-being and financial security.
“Humanity has big issues, but many of us live between dreams for a better world; and a padded private life we didn’t exactly choose”
This trip is about being poor and a little hungry at times; it’s about being stranded and needing to rely on others; it’s about taking a break to reflect and listen; it’s about seeing what other folks are up to - and hopefully being inspired and motivated towards a different way of living. We want to meet other people who are changing the communities they live in, with the hopes of one day doing the same in our own.

You two certainly have changed the communities you have been a part of, and will hopefully be able to offer even more as a result of this trip.

I understand and applaude your desire as I too feel the weight of the burden you so poignantly describe. Our approaches to quenching such a meaningful thirst may be different but in this game called life there are no right answers and each story is eqaually inspiring. I very much look forward to sharing in your adventures (at least the ones that make it to print) as your courage, faith and perseveance has been and will continue to be a source of inspiration. I know that such faith as you demonstrate undertaking this adventure can only serve to help you find what you are looking for. I will miss you both but I have no doubt I will see you again some day.

On Journeys Through The States

On journeys through the States we start,
(Ay through the world, urged by these songs, Sailing henceforth to every land, to every sea,)
We willing learners of all, teachers of all, and lovers of all.
We have watch'd the seasons dispensing themselves and passing on,
And have said, Why should not a man or woman do as much as the seasons, and effuse as much?
We dwell a while in every city and town,
We pass through Kanada, the North-east, the vast valley of the Mississippi, and the Southern States,
We confer on equal terms with each of the States,
We make trial of ourselves and invite men and women to hear,
We say to ourselves, Remember, fear not, be candid, promulge the body and the soul, Dwell a while and pass on, be copious, temperate, chaste, magnetic,
And what you effuse may then return as the seasons return,
And may be just as much as the seasons.

So essentially what you're saying then is that you guys are a couple of tree-huggers... well I think that's just great.
I think this world needs more tree-huggers.
Jesus saves.

You guys have certainly touched the community I am a part of...and I know you'll continue to do the same elsewhere. I can't wait to hear all about your adventures..especially in the wickedest van ever! Delilah....I like that ^_^

What I've learned from the two of you, Crys and Geo, is this:
There are big ships,
There are small ships,
But the best ships,
Are friendships.

Know that.

My dear friends,
As I read those words my heart yearns for something I do not yet know or understand but I see a glimmer of it in you.

After years of kitchen-conversations and nearing the brink of that different life which is both nearly tangible and a complete mystery ... you two have taken more than just a step in the journey to find that life, you've taken a giant leap.

I must admit my envy of both your courage and your van! For myself I hope your travels and your reflections on your travels will help to expand my understanding of the lives we could be living.

For you I hope things are safe enough that you come back to us in one piece and dangerous enough that you're changed forever and will have even more to share with the sometimes long-distance community that you are a part of.

As we search for purpose and meaning in different locations and different communities I hope we can continue to share what we've learned. I miss you already and I am thrilled to the core that you are my friends.

beautiful travellers...
reading your words of thoughtful reflection and real gritty hope, gives me shivers...but what inspires the goose-bumps up and down my arms is the meaningful responses you evoke from all those you have built community with...it is a beautiful thing when a couple and their teddy-bear can embark on an adventure of the soul...and invite all the people they love to join them.
My heart swells with pride...and i can sense the very presense of God in this...may we all be blessed.
